Minnesota )  Enrollment is now open for Minnesota’s 2023 Walk-In Access program, which pays landowners to allow public hunting on private lands.

Landowners receive $18 per acre enrolled.  A $3 fee paid when purchasing a hunting license allows a hunter to use Walk-In Access parcels Sept. 1 through May 31.  Landowners sign up at their local Soil and Water Conservation District office.   More information is at DNR’s Walk-In Access page (mndnr.gov/walkin).

Woodstock )  St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Woodstock .. Sat, March 18th – 1 pmWoodstock First Responders selling burgers and hot dogs at the firehall before the parade.   After the parade .. Mulligan Stew served with proceeds going to Pipestone County Hospice.  2 – 4 pm .. Kids’ Carnival at Woodstock Community Church.

 

Slayton )  Slayton Area Farm & Home Show / Family Fair .. Saturday, March 18th ..      10 am to 2 pm in the MCC School Gym.  Great Plains Zoo Mobile .. Free games and books for kids.  Bring the whole family.  Pulled pork sandwiches,  chips,  cookie.  Giveaways,  prizes, products, and local businesses and vendors.   Hosted by Slayton Area Chamber and Murray County Early Childhood Initiative.  

 

Lake Benton )  Lake Benton Sportsman’s Club WILD GAME DINNER .. Saturday, March 18th .. 5 pm at Lake Benton’s Event Center. Wide variety of wild game dishes:  Buffalo,  duck,  goose,  pheasant,  venison,  wild pig,  turkey,  antelope,  perch,  and more.  Raffle tickets available for drawing.   $15 for adults.  $5 – kids 12 and under.

DNR WEBINARS )  MN Department of Natural Resources invites people interested in wildlife and outdoor skills to tune in to upcoming webinars.

Noon – Wednesday, March 22.   Kevin Kenow,  loon researcher will discuss where loons breed, spend the winter, what they eat,  threats they face and information on Minnesota’s loon population.   * Webinars are part of the DNR’s Minnesota Outdoor Skills and Stewardship Series. Slayton )  Murray County Historical Society offers its final Dinehart Lunchbox Lecture of this season ..Friday, April 14th – Noon .. in the 4-H building on the Murray County Fairgrounds in Slayton.  Kandiyohi County native, Carolyn Mankell Sowinski presents: “Frozen on the Minnesota Prairie: The Blizzard of January 7, 1873.”   Sowinski has written a book about a 3-day blizzard which occurred 150 years ago.  84 people in the state died in this storm.  Cost – $3 per person.  For more information – call museum 507-836-6533.
