Libraries in the Plum Creek Library System are offering new Storytelling Kits and invite patrons to explore the new collection of more than 130 kits. Funded through the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, Storytelling kits are available for checkout at all Plum Creek libraries and can be found in the online library catalog by searching, “Storytelling Kits”. Each kit contains a variety of materials based on the kit’s theme. Some include puppets, music CDs, and DVDs to accompany the storybooks.
Pipestone ) Meinders Community Library hosts a program in Recognition of May Mental Health Awareness Month .. Tuesday, May 23rd – 6:30 pm with advocate, Deb LaCroix-Kinniry as speaker. Her topic: Do you know who to call during a mental health crisis? Learn about Travis’ Law and how it can help you or a loved one in your greatest time of need. Open to the public.

Pipestone ) Pipestone American Legion and Auxiliary are now offering Poppies for sale at the American Legion and at the Memorial Day program Monday, May 29th. All donated funds are given directly to support a variety of programs for local and Minnesota veterans and active-duty military persons. The poppy is a symbol of sacrifice .. sacrifice made by our veterans while protecting our freedoms.
DNR webinars – Minnesota Department of Natural Resources invites people interested in wildlife to tune in to upcoming webinars. Next Wednesday webinar is : 12 noon – May 24th – Monarch butterfly conservation .. simple steps to make a difference. Learn from experts from Monarch Joint Venture about what is being done for monarchs in North America and how you can take part here in Minnesota. Slayton ) American Legion Auxiliary Unit 64 of Slayton distributes poppies in the community on Thursday, May 25th. Money collected supports programs for Veterans. When you see members of the Auxiliary with the poppies, remember what our Veterans have done to keep our nation free. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice and, so many are still struggling today. Be generous and honor our Veterans.

Pipestone ) Raptors of Minnesota Program at Pipestone National Monument .. Saturday, May 27th – 1 pm. University of Minnesota’s Raptor Center brings a variety including: great horned owls, hawks, and a bald eagle to learn about these amazing birds of prey. Free event. Meet in the Visitor Center parking lot at 12:45 pm and bring a lawn chair. Please – no dogs at this event.

Pipestone ) Pipestone American Legion’s Avenue of Flags will be flown on Memorial Day – May 29th .. 7 am to 5 pm in various locations around Pipestone. Volunteers are crucial to helping set-up and take-down the flags. Those interested, should meet at the Pipestone Fire Department parking lot at 7 am Monday. Please return at 5 pm to help retire the flags.

Slayton ) Murray County Historical Society‘s annual Front Porch Music Concert Series. This summer’s concert lineup:
