Slayton )  Big Ideas Mobile Lab .. a special career event for young people .. hosted by Slayton Public Library and Murray Co. 4-H .. is Tuesday, June 16th.  Hands-on .. free and designed for students who have just completed grades 5 thru 12.  Event runs 8:30 – 10:30 am in the 4-H Building at Murray Co. Pipestone County Historical Society invites the public Thursday, June 18th – 10 am at Pipestone County Museum.  Speaker, Trava Olivier .. museum educator .. presents “How to Access and Navigate Pipestone County’s Digital Newspaper Archive”.  Currently, the museum’s collection includes newspapers from 1879 to 1915 online.  Coffee Talk is 3rd Thursday each month – 10 am and free to attend.  Complimentary coffee and treats – 9:45 am

Slayton )   Slayton Community Band’s free Summer Concerts .. 7 pm – Thursdays June 18th at Gullord Park in Slayton.  This concert will include:  classic cartoon capers .. The Music Man .. and the Best of Queen.  Murray Lodge #199 sponsors a Burger Feed before the concert from 5 – 7 pm.  Full meal – $10.  Just a burger – $5.  Proceeds benefit Scholarship Program for students at MCC and Fulda High School.

Meet at the Eagle Rock Vista Trailhead.

The colors on the prairie change quickly with the season. Join the naturalist on a search for blooming wildflowers and learn the basics for identifying these leafy treasures. Up to 1 mile of walking on moderate terrain with supportive shoes, water, and sun protection.

Meet at the Picnic Area.

Bison are not the only mammal that call Blue Mounds State Park home. Take 5-10 minutes to stop by the naturalist table to see and touch some furs and skulls of the different mammals you can find at the park.

Meet at the Amphitheater.

Hoot hoot! From silent flight to night vision, owls have fascinated people for centuries with their incredible adaptations. Join the naturalist to shed some light on this nocturnal hunter. *Bring a chair as seating is limited.

SATURDAY, JUNE 20  2–2:30 pm Junior Rangers: Dragons and Damsels

Meet at the Picnic Shelter at Blue Mounds State Park, Luverne.  

Calling all junior rangers! Get ready to meet two of the park’s smallest hunters: dragonflies and damselflies. After discovering what makes these little creatures such effective predators, make a small craft to fly home with. This program is designed with children ages 6-12 in mind, though all ages are welcome.

Oh no! Some of the animals at Blue Mounds State Park have lost their eggs! Stop by the naturalist’s table to help our egg-laying residents refill their nests. *Activity takes about 5-10 minutes.
